Following four years formal education in Photography, Film and Television at Plymouth College of Art and Design in south west England, Matt made the move to London to get his feet wet. His 'real world' education began with directing, shooting and editing music videos at MGMM in Soho, at that time the world’s largest producer of music videos.
Matt decided to move on when he was invited to join a team of like-minded director/cinematographers, at Apollon Bild and Film based in southern Sweden. By 1994 they were attracting attention as the most played production company on MTV Europe, riding the 'Eurodance' wave of the early 1990’s. Matt’s work topped the airplay charts around the world, with continuous rotation in the European listings for months on end, peaking in May of 1994 with four of his videos simultaneously in the European Top Twenty. In 1995 the video industry magazine 'Promo' placed Matt on the 'top ten' list of directors for European airplay with 574 plays.
By 1996 the pendulum had swung back towards London where Matt spent the next ten years directing and shooting out of Serious Pictures Film Company, broadening the scope of his work to include all kinds of artists across the whole spectrum of the music business. Opportunities to shoot for other directors on commercial and other longer form projects also presented themselves during this period and by 2006 Matt had figured out that his true strength and passion lay in the role of Director of Photography.
Since then Matt has worked solely as a Director of Photography from his base in Stockholm, bringing his wealth of experience to the process of realizing the creative vision of others. His experience as a DOP encompasses a wide range of disciplines, taking in advertising, television and the ever developing world of the web. The thing he loves most about being a DOP is that no two shoot days are ever the same. The simple act of putting an eye to the viewfinder continues to present new and stimulating challenges every time.
